Matthew Ryan

Principal Structural Engineer
Lead Structural Engineer

Matthew Ryan is a Principal Structural Engineer at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd where he has been part of the team since 2025. 

Matthew has over 25 years of experience in a variety of structural engineering fields including mining, materials handling, heavy industrial, institutional, infrastructure and building, on projects of international and domestic natures.

His experience includes detailed structural design of new and existing structures, remedial works, and upgrades.  Matthew has also conducted numerous condition assessments and QA/QC inspections and provided onsite technical support during construction and complex maintenance shutdowns.  He has also contributed to emergency recovery efforts and incident investigations following structural failures. Matthew has key communication skills to allow concise description of complex analyses and design outcomes to all levels of the project team.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, with honours, from Curtin University of Technology.  He is a Chartered Professional Engineer and, a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland.

Laura Conroy 

Structural Engineer

Laura Conroy is a Structural Engineer at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd, where she has been part of the team since 2018.

Laura has extensive experience in structural engineering across the mining, materials handling, and heavy industrial sectors. Her expertise extends to both greenfield and brownfield environments, particularly involving fixed plant infrastructure and bulk handling machinery.

Throughout her career, Laura has delivered a wide range of structural engineering services, including detailed structural design, structural inspections, on-site technical assistance, design reviews for modifications and upgrades to existing assets and life extension studies for critical structural components in operational facilities.

Laura has been involved in numerous emergency incident responses, assisting clients in rapidly assessing structural issues and developing practical, safe solutions to return machines / assets to service with minimal downtime. Her ability to respond effectively under pressure has made her a trusted technical advisor during critical operational events.

Her core strengths lie in the analysis, design, and inspection of mining and heavy industrial structures, with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and asset reliability.

Laura holds a Master of Professional Engineering (Civil Engineering) with Distinction from the University of Western Australia and is currently a member of Standards Australia’s BD-001 Technical Committee, contributing to the revision and update of key structural standards, including AS 4100 – Steel Structures.

Chaminda Kumara

Structural Engineer

Chaminda Kumara is a Structural Engineer at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd, having joined the company in June 2025. He brings over 15 years of international experience in structural and geotechnical design from Singapore, where he held progressive roles from Design Engineer to Design Manager. His expertise includes the design and assessment of marine and civil infrastructure, such as wharves, jetties, steel shelters, crossings, and dams, as well as other complex concrete and steel structures. He has worked across both design and build environments, with a strong focus on structural integrity, constructability, and long-term asset performance.

At Structural Integrity Engineering, Chaminda is engaged in a wide range of structural engineering activities — from detailed design and analysis of new and existing structures to remedial works, condition assessments, and the preparation of comprehensive engineering documentation. He is proficient in SpaceGass, Strand7, AutoCAD, and TEDDS, supporting efficient analysis, design verification, and documentation processes.

Chaminda holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Honours) from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, a Master of Business Administration (Project Management) from Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, and a Specialist Diploma in Construction Management from the BCA Academy, Singapore. He is a Member of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) and is recognised for his ability to respond effectively under pressure and his fast learning capability in adapting to new standards and practices. Chaminda is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professional practice, safety, and technical excellence in all aspects of structural engineering.

Aaron Maloney

Senior Structural Designer

Aaron Maloney is a Senior Structural Designer at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd, joining the company in 2020. Aaron has supported structural engineering projects across Australia, primarily in mining, materials handling, and heavy industrial structures including fixed plant and bulk handling machinery.

Aaron has played a key role in developing the company’s drafting libraries and standards, which continue to underpin SIE’s design workflows. His leadership and initiative have helped scale the drafting function.

Aaron has had extensive experience in developing SIE’s drone program, initially to assist engineers with inspections. He has since helped expand this program into a comprehensive strategy for reality modelling of assets, producing a high-quality library of detailed 3D models of complex machinery across multiple Pilbara sites. This innovation has positioned SIE as a leading provider of reality modelling services for clients in the region.

Proficient in a wide range of design and analysis tools including AutoCAD, Revit, Advance Steel, MicroStation, Rhinoceros, and Strand7, Aaron has led the company’s adoption of Advance Steel for structural detailing, enabling SIE to now deliver shop drawings in-house.

Aaron holds a Diploma of Civil & Structural Engineering from North Metropolitan TAFE in Western Australia.

Jack Barnes

Structural Designer

Jack Barnes is a Structural Designer at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd, joining the company at the start of 2025. Jack has quickly gained exposure and experience with a wide range of design and analysis tools, along with an understanding of SIE standards and procedures, allowing him to assist the engineering team in developing drawing packages across a range of different sectors of the mining industry.

Shortly after starting, Jack obtained his commercial drone operators ticket. Enabling him to assist the SIE team with site inspections and photogrammetry model capture for client assets. He has been instrumental in helping to develop and refine the photogrammetry capture and 3D model processing procedures, which has helped SIE look towards expanding and further developing its drone services arm of the company.

Jack holds a Diploma of Civil & Structural Engineering from North Metropolitan TAFE in Western Australia.

Natalie Barker

Senior Administrator
Personal Assistant

Natalie Barker is a senior administrator and personal assistant to the Engineers at Structural Integrity Engineering Pty Ltd, where she started out as Peter de San Miguel’s Personal Assistant in 2011. Natalie takes care of SIE’s Integrated Management System; site requirements such as PPE, induction portals, safety and competencies training, site and safety documentation; record management and document templates; Perth office operations; and assistance with letters and reports. Originally trained as an Architectural Draftsperson, Natalie holds a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Arts (Writing) with First Class Honours from Edith Cowan University.

Natalie’s role is very versatile but essentially builds on her strengths in communication and her expertise in workplace wellbeing. Passionate about creating positive, supportive teams, Natalie supports Perth staff both practically and interpersonally. She has undertaken a variety of larger projects for SIE, including the search for, purchase of, and full renovation and furnishing of SIE’s CBD office. She also tailored the Integrated Management System to suit SIE’s operations. In 2020, Natalie conducted a cultural review of SIE and found that SIE benefits from outstanding, caring leadership and the shared core values of honesty, technical correctness, professionalism and accountability/integrity.
